The UK's ARB (Architects Registration Board) is currently exploring major reforms to the education of architects with a replacement of the long-standing part 1,2,3 structure. Set against the backdrop of the historic MRA recently signed and now in effect between the UK and US, we feel this is an ideal time to reflect on how architects are educated in the US and in the UK, the common approaches and differences, and what one might learn from the other.

Hall McKnight is an architectural practice established in 2003 with studios in Belfast and London. The practice's work has been recognized with success in international design contests, notably the MAC Arts Centre, completed in February 2012 for which the practice won the Downes Medal for the award by the Architectural Association of Ireland.
