Carl Shenton

What's your favorite thing about architecture?

Seeing drawings/renderings/models take shape in four dimensions as a project is constructed on-site.

Why did you become an RIBA member?

I joined the RIBA as soon as I completed my Part 3 in 1999. I was working for Grimshaw in London at the time, and they encouraged RIBA membership. I could walk to 66 Portland Place from the office for exhibitions, events, lectures, etc.

What kind of projects does your firm do?

Private residential, specialist commercial and arts based institutional projects.

What’s your favorite project you've worked on so far and why?

North Fork House

Starting in 2014 we worked with the client and our partner architect SO-IL to design this new build house on an un-touched rolling 20-acre oceanfront property. The combination of very focused and thoughtful clients, a talented design team, and skilled contractors led to the realization of a truly unique and beautifully detailed house. Since completion in 2019, we are now building a pool and pool house, and designing an office pavilion to complement the main house.
